Last weekend, The Alpha Delta Phi Fraternity was to hold its winter national board meeting in Cambridge. MA. We reserved a block of rooms at The Kendall Hotel. On New Year’s Eve, owing to the impending snow storm, we decided to postpone the meeting.
Notwithstanding the group cancellation policy, the hotel’s General Manager, Brenda Anderson, graciously agreed to provide the Fraternity with a credit for a future stay, for which we are very grateful.
The aftermath of the storm was predicted to be brutal; the temperature in the Boston area would plummet to sub-zero ranges. We contacted The Kendall Hotel with a novel idea: instead of applying the credit to a future stay by Alpha Delta Phi, could we make the rooms available to clientele of Rosie’s Place or other homeless shelters which would no doubt be stretched beyond their resources this weekend?
Anderson said that in her 10 years of working at the hotel she had never had such a request. Despite some understandable initial reluctance, we were able to work with the hotel so the two organizations could do something positive for those less fortunate. That bitterly cold weekend The Kendall housed several individuals in need of shelter and will donate the balance of Alpha Delta Phi’s credit to Rosie’s Place in the form of blankets, bedding and other essentials.
On behalf of Alpha Delta Phi, I wish to thank The Kendall Hotel for stepping up and commend them for being such outstanding corporate citizens.
